5 Herod wanted to put John to death, but he was afraid of the people because they regarded John as a prophet. 6 But at a birthday celebration for Herod, the daughter of Herodias[a] danced in front of the guests, and she pleased Herod so much 7 that he promised with an oath to give her anything she asked for.
